Rechten Nepalese Dalits
De nieuwe Nepalese Grondwet moet de mensenrechten van de Dalits erkennen en beschermen. Het op 22 april gepubliceerde rapport ‘Recasting Justice – Securing Dalit rights in Nepal’s New Constitution’ van het Center for Human Rights and Global justice (CHRGJ) doet daartoe uitgebreide aanbevelingen. Het rapport is gepubliceerd net nadat Nepal op 10 april een parlement heeft gekozen dat de nieuwe Grondwet moet gaan schrijven.
Het onlangs ook gepubliceerde ‘Kathmandu Charter of Dalit Rights’ somt op wat de verlangens zijn van de Dalits zelf. Dit document is tot stand gekomen in samenwerking tussen 16 Dalit organisaties, na tal van consultaties van Dalits in diverse delen van het land.

Nepalese Dalit Rights
Nepal’s new constitution must recognize and
protect the fundamental human rights of Dalits, says a new report ('Recasting Justice: Securing Dalit Rights in Nepal’s New Constitution') released today by the Center for Human
Rights and Global Justice (CHRGJ) at New York University School of Law. The report was released on
the heels of Nepal’s historic Constituent Assembly elections held on April 10, 2008.
The recently published ‘Kathmandu Charter of Dalit Rights’ sums up the demands of the Dalits. This document is a result of the co-operation of 16 Dalit organisations, after a number of consultations of Dalits in various parts of the country.
